Your Story. Your Sound.
Celebrating historical craftsmanship when appropriate, and pushing innovations that solve modern problems. The balance point that we take is that the engineering of our components should be simple, easy to use, robust, with at least a tip of the hat to the traditions set before us. Our two biggest inspirations for creating our instruments are Pat Cooperman and Gus Moeller. Both of these makers were significant innovators in drum construction, and are among the giants in the foundation of what are considered the "classic" rope drums of the 20th century.

Power tools are great, but sometimes a technology that has matured over the course of millennia still holds value in the production space of instrument creation. Could we make a drum without hand planes and rasps? Of course, but we have the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of generations of the craft in the use of hand tools that have been perfected.
With power tools, wood is cut however you set it up. With hand tools, such as planes and chisels, the wood gets a say in how the cut is performed. Following wood grain with and tools almost always creates a strong joint, edge, etc.., and celebrates the organic nature of the wood.

Our shop is a wild place. From hand tools to custom CNC machinery, and the team that makes it happen, we have the infrastructure to bring these custom instruments to life.
Custom artwork can be done in several ways, including hand painting from one of our world-class artists. This typically starts with a concept, then gets refined over a Zoom call with Dave and the artists to realize your vision.
We draw techniques from many different artisanal crafts in our production experience, including:
Dozens of historic drums in our collection inspire and guide our approach to maintaining tradition, while advancing the craft.
