Loyal Mammoth Engineered Calfskin

It sounds like calfskin. It sounds nothing like Mylar.

"Calfskin drumheads offer a soft feel on impact, along with the clear articulation and natural overtones that synthetic films have been reaching for since the 1950’s. After 3/4 of a Century, these oil-based heads still sound and feel like plastic.

Loyal Drums’ Mammoth heads have the organic sound and feel of calfskin, but also offer improved consistency, durability, and affordability when compared to today’s premium calfskin drumheads.”

-Mike Dillman, Calfskin Aficionado

What makes natural heads sound different than any petroleum based film? Consistent membranes move in very consistent ways. Variations make the difference. Part of the process that we use for creating Mammoth heads is micro “crackle flats”. Think of this as the way a computer can model water movement using only flat geometries with hinged joints. After creating the crackle flats, they are sealed with a more flexible formula, that allows them to move freely to create a nuanced calf sound.

Mammoth is natural, protein based, with lipids, casein, and other organic compounds. It is not waterproof, and direct contact with water should be avoided.

Concert bass sizes are built on 3/8” welded steel fleshoops.

Mammoth has a bounce similar to calf, but with a little more spring. Head to head consistency for rudimental players is a welcomed advancement.
